On March 3rd members of Vernois Publications group went to SIU Carbondale to participate in SISPA. (Southern Illinois Student Press Association). The Vernois News received the Blue Banner award for the first time in over 20 years and Editor in Chief Alicia Sheldon won the onsite feature writing contest. The Vernois Yearbook also took home the Golden Dozen award, 1st place in photography, 3rd place in dividers, and honorable mention for layouts.

Fifteen Qualify for State in Six Events
Saturday, February 22, 2010, students from Mt. Vernon Area Vocational Center’s SkillsUSA chapter traveled to Southwestern Illinois College in Granite City to compete in the Regional qualifying examination for Illinois SkillsUSA. The students competed in a total of ten competitions and qualified eight students in seven of the competitions. These eight students will represent Mt. Vernon AVC at the SkillsUSA State competition to be held on April 15-17 in Springfield, Illinois.
