School is in its second quarter of classes and attendance is up while tardies are down.
The question remains, however. Is MV progressing as planned?
MV principal Ron Daniels stated that “most students will follow through with expectations.”
Mr. Daniels added that he is pleased with progress that school had made, but as a whole it still has work to do.
“Our future goal is to encourage teachers to push students higher academically and continue to build relationships with them.”
According to Mr. Daniels, the RAM Pride system is one way to prepare students for college. Another way to prepare students is by writing persuasive essays.
Mr. Sean Docherty, social studies, said the RAM Pride system was a “step in the right direction.”
Rewards for the drawing of tickets include discounts for businesses around Mt. Vernon as well as gas cards, and gift cards to local restaurants.
But has the school really improved?
Nick Vosburgh, “10, said, “Students are putting on an act for teachers to get rewarded. Overall, we haven‘t changed much.”
With attendance up MV can get high state funding.
Mr. Daniels, described a freshmen academy, which keeps freshmen together in one building and help them make a better transition to high school life.
Freshmen would not have to move about the campus looking for their classes and they would also have to remain on campus during lunch.
As far as inspirational speakers go, Mr. Daniels is in the process of finding people to come speak to the student body. No speakers have been confirmed at the moment.
Whether it is for personal growth or for RAM tickets, MV students are exhibiting different behavior than past years.
