Culinary Arts -- Christmas Project...

The Gingerbread Project began with each Culinary Arts student researching gingerbread and its history. They also researched different house ideas and ingredients for each house. Each kitchen of four students had to create/design a floor plan for their own house or houses. Students were graded on teamwork, creativity, use of time, and cleanup.

Ms. Julie Holmes, Culinary Arts instructor, stated, "Although at times a frustrating experience, the students seemed to have a lot of fun with this project. Students learned a lot about organization and planning. Everybody did a great job and received some sort of award for their efforts."

Winners:
Kitchen 6:  Best Overall and Most Creative
Nicole Lash, Adam Jolly, Aaron Hefner, Hope Bialik
This kitchen did an awesome job with planning. They were done before any of the other kitchens and worked well together. They had a great floor plan and that made the whole process smooth for them. They had a lot of fresh ideas and their house was an A+ project.

Kitchen 1:  Simplicity Award
Jessica Neal, Taylor Lowery, Chelsey Hicks, Cindy Williams, Jeremy Williams
Sometimes less is more!

Kitchen 2:  Persistency Award
Amanda Henson, Chimera McClain, Crystal Diaz, Brad Capps
This kitchen had a rough start. Their floor plan was for a big house. Their dough was rolled too thin and broke in pieces once frosted together. They had one day left from this point to finish their whole project. One student from this group took the recipe home and came back the next day with all the house's pieces put together made from a new floor plan. Impressive! This kitchen did not give up even though it looked like they might! Good job! They finished their house all in one day!
