FFA National Convention
The Mt. Vernon FFA sent 21 students to the 84th National FFA Convention at Indianapolis, IN on October 19-21, 2011. The students from Mt. Vernon High School were recognized as a three star gold FFA Chapter. The Mt. Vernon FFA is one of the top 1% of all agriculture departments and FFA Chapters in the nation for all its activities and content taught to FFA members. Kane Austin, Presidents of the Mt. Vernon FFA Chapter will be recognized as a Gold emblem winner of his Supervised Agricultural Experience records and works in Swine Production. The students will learn at three sessions at the convention, attend the 500 or more exhibitors at the Career Show and meet with 55,000 FFA members and guests from across the United States from 7486 High Schools.
Local FFA Chapter Receives National Ranking
INDIANAPOLIS- The National FFA Organization recently selected, from a pool of more than 650 candidates nationwide, the Mt. Vernon FFA Chapter of Mt. Vernon, IL, as a 3-star winner in the National FFA Chapter Award program. The chapter members have been invited to attend the 84th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 19-22, 2011, where they will be recognized for this honor.
The award program is sponsored by John Deere as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The National FFA Chapter Award program recognizes FFA chapters for developing and conducting a detailed Program of Activities (POA). Each activity provides opportunities for members to excel in one of three areas: students, chapter, or community development. Every year, chapters are recognized as having earned a one, two, or three-star rating on their application. The tree-star rating is the highest level of accomplishment a chapter may achieve.
The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of 523,309 student members- all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture-as part of 7,487 local FFA chapters I all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The National FFA Organization changed to its present name in 1988, in recognition of the growth and diversity of agriculture and agricultural education.
