Dual Credit

Courses Saves Students Money/Time

August 25, 2008

While it may not be the norm anymore for students to graduate college in just four years, Rend Lake College is helping Mt. Vernon Township High School students 16 years of age and older reach that goal by offering college credit to students while they are still in high school.

The dual-credit system, at least as old as 1992 in the United States and made legal in Illinois in 1996, allows high school students to receive college credit for courses they take during a normal day in addition to satisfying high school graduation requirements.

These courses are offered by Rend Lake College tuition-free. There is a $15.00 textbook fee for each textbook used.

Dual-credit courses are taught at Mt. Vernon Township High School by high school instructors.
