Mt. Vernon AVC: AVC Concept

Story image 1

-----

The Area Vocational Center located on the campus of Mt. Vernon Township High School was established in 1966 to help meet the needs of students in the area who desired training in the Career and Technical Education Programs. Additional Programs are being developed and will be developed upon the desires of the students and the needs of the communities served.

Realizing that one school district can seldom provide all the desired programs, the Boards of Education and the administrators of the several school districts chose to participate in an area vocational concept. Mt. Vernon High School was chosen to serve as the host school because of its past leadership in Career and Technical Training as well as its existing facilities and equipment.

The Mt. Vernon Area Vocational Center was established to help prepare as many students as possible for their entrance into the world of work. The Center was established also to furnish more skilled and semi-skilled personnel to serve the needs of business and industry in the area.
