Cherie Rogier awarded Top Agriculture Teacher in Illinois

Cherie Rogier, agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Mt. Vernon Township High School was awarded the Top Agriculture Teacher of Illinois at the Illinois Association of Agriculture Teacher's Conference at Bloomington, Illinois on June 21, 2016.

Ms. Cherie Rogier was honored at the annual banquet on June 21, 2016, at the Marriot Hotel in Bloomington for all her hard work and dedication to Agriculture Education. She was chosen as the top agriculture teacher out of the 440 agriculture teachers in Illinois. Her application went through the 16 schools in Section 21, the 68 schools in District V and the 328 high schools in Illinois to receive this award.

The Outstanding Teacher Award is based on the teaching Ms. Rogier does in classroom, her work with the FFA, the leadership role she has taken in the Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers as a Section Chairperson and a District Director, and her work in community service.

Ms. Cherie Rogier has shown her outstanding ability to teach and lead the young agriculture students of Mt. Vernon Township High School.

 

 

MVTHS Ag Teachers Honored at IAVAT Conference

 

Mt. Vernon Township High School agriculture teachers and FFA Advisors Mr. John Kabat and Ms. Cherie Rogier both received distinguished honors at the Illinois Association of Vocational Agriculture Teachers (IAVAT) Conference, held annually in June.

Mr. Kabat received a service award for his 30 years of membership to the IAVAT organization and agricultural education. He was also honored as the Illinois winner of the National Association of Agricultural Educators Outstanding Service Citation for his contributions to agricultural education at the state and national level.

 

Ms. Rogier received her 10 year service award to the IAVAT. She also retired as the IAVAT District V Director, which she has served as over the past four years. Ms. Rogier was also honored with the IAVAT Section 21 Excellence in Teaching Award and was named the District V winner. She will be honored at the Illinois State Fair during the Ag Day Luncheon, where the state winner will be named.

 

Congratulations to both Mr. Kabat and Ms. Rogier for all they do to promote agricultural education at MVTHS and beyond.

Kappa Delta Phi Award

Mr. Rolland Mays was recently honored at Eastern Illinois University. He received the "Honor An Educator" award from the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education. Mr. Mays was nominated for the award by his former student Ashley Marlow. The award recognizes teachers who exemplify high professional, intellectual, and personal standards. It is awarded annually to a teacher who demonstrates dedication to students and the field of education
