A few thoughts from your

SRO -- Sgt. Hawkins

From time to time, students report thefts of personal items from their backpacks. Other times they may report their entire backpack has been stolen. When students report thefts, they are asked where their property was when it was taken. Various answers are received.

When the student tells their parent, if they in fact tell them, I am sure parents have visions of their child's property being physically removed from them. While incidents like that have occurred, the most common is depicted by the pictures shown here. These pictures represent a normal lunch at MVTHS. Daily, students leave their property unattended and go to lunch. If a less than honorable student knows what another student has, they merely have to watch where they consistently place their backpack and help themselves to the property.

It is possible that parents may not even be aware of what their children bring to school. Other than in between classes or a lunch, there is really no need to have an iPod or a PSP. Much effort is taken to make the campus as safe and crime free as possible, but with the large campus and open campus lunch, there are simply not enough individuals to watch everything. These pictures do not include the bags left in the stairwells and lobbies of the buildings. Help keep MVTHS safe and crime free.
