MVTHS 2005-2006 Special Olympics Team

MVTHS Special Olympics

The focus in Special Olympics is on what athletes can do. Like everyone, Special Olympics athletes like to win, but more importantly - they strive to do their best!

The sportsmanship that is demonstrated on the court, in the field, or on the track serves as an inspiration to all!

Our team competes in the Bowling competition in September, the Individual Basketball Skills competition in December, and the Spring Games Track and Field Events in May. For many years athletes that have earned Gold medals at Spring Games are given an opportunity to participate at the State Summer Games held in Bloomington-Normal.  We've even had an athlete compete at World Summer Games 2007 in China. What a great way to show our community, state, country, and the whole world that Mt. Vernon athletes are top notch!!

View the "Join the Team" video (10 minutes) on YouTube and find out what Special Olympics means to athletes, families, volunteers and donors in Illinois.
