There is no school for students on Friday, but MVTHS still has classes -- for about 1,000 southern Illinois educators.
Friday the 31st MVTHS hosts the 46th annual Mt. Vernon Teachers’ Conference.
The conference is a chance for teachers to get together, to learn from each other, sharpen their “professional educator chops” and inspire each other.
The MVC is sponsored by Regional Office of Education 13, Matt Renaud, Regional Superintendent and Regional Office of Education 21, Lorie LeQuatte, Regional Superintendent.
MVTHS has played host to the conference since its inception, and continues to look forward to the day. District Superintendent Chad LeCrone said, "MVTHS is very pleased to partner with ROE #13 and ROE #21 to host the 46th Annual Mt. Vernon Conference. It is one of the elite education conferences in the state of Illinois, bringing in well over 1,000 educators and over 150 professional learning sessions to choose from.
Presenters come from all over the country, and from very close to home. This year more than two dozen MVTHS teachers, and an equal number from other schools in the county, are presenting sessions on a variety of education topics, from Shop Class to Special Ed, Ag to AI and all of the core subjects that help our student's succeed. Although there is no school for students, there will still be a lot of them on campus. Hungry educators are a proven fundraising opportunity for many of the district’s clubs and activities. Off campus, Mt. Vernon area businesses – shops, restaurants and lodging, benefit as well.
